TRUE CAUSE TRACKING (T.C.T.) is a process that has been developed specifically for the mining industry., It has been implemented in numerous mining operations in recent years. The results have been consistently positive, in the form of reduced mechanical and operational delays. T.C.T. also targets loss of process which is equipment that is being operated at a productivity level that is less than expected performance or rated capacity.
RUE CAUSE TRACKING begins with the premise that approximately 70% of all equipment delays are preventable. "Preventable" means that people -- your management and work force -- are either causing the loss through their practices (management/operational/ mechanical) or are not taking positive actions to identify and eliminate these losses. T.C.T. is a process that will provide you with the skills to identify TRUE causes of these process losses. Most importantly, T.C.T. then establishes accountability for the development and implementation of specific actions to eliminate or reduce these losses.
TRUE CAUSE TRACKING is implemented over a period of time. The time will vary based on size, type of operation, and logistics of each mine. The implementation of the T.C.T. process is accomplished through the following three phases:
Introduction to T.C.T. • Problem Identification Skills Training • Design of Mine Specific T.C.T. Format • Development of Initial True Causes • Practice Tracking of Performance Losses
Review of All Practice Tracking with Each Foreman • Finalize True Cause List • Establish Performance Improvement Goals • Let the Process Begin • T.C.T. is Implemented for Real • Accountability for Action Projects Aimed at Reducing True Causes is Established. • The Initial T.C.T. Format Report is Prepared and Distributed
Daily/Weekly/Monthly Review of True Causes of Lost Performance • Evaluation of Effectiveness of Action Projects • Did We Achieve the Desired Performance Gains? • Development of New Actions to Further Reduce Performance Losses • The Formal T.C.T. Monthly Report is Generated and Distributed To All Participants • T.C.T. Becomes an Ongoing Management Practice.
